Lessons take place online and you need to use a laptop for your lessons. This will allow you to record lessons and for us to use other functionality such as screen-sharing.

You may NOT do lessons on a phone or tablet as these devices do not allow recording from Zoom. If you arrive for your lesson and you are using a phone or tablet, then I will  postpone your lesson until you are set up on a computer.

I use Zoom for lessons. If you're unsure how to use it, I can help you.

You are required to make sure your computer, your microphone and your camera meet the required specifications by checking with this list from Zoom. I spend a lot of each lesson screen-sharing so you should also make sure your bandwidth supports this.

You should do a technology check and make sure your camera and microphone are working before EVERY lesson. If you have technology issues that delay the start of your lesson, I cannot guarantee that we will make up time. I will often have a lesson to go to straight after yours, so I have to finish at the scheduled time.

Your lesson schedule, which we will agree together before you make your first payment, will show your lesson start and finish times in your local time.

Lessons start promptly at the time shown on your lesson schedule. I will allow 10 minutes for lateness but, after that, if you haven't contacted me, I will reschedule the lesson as there is no point in starting a lesson that late.

I will often have other students before and after your lesson, so I cannot extend lesson times because of lateness.

If you are going to be late for a lesson, please let me know as soon as possible.

Please give me as much notice as possible (at least 24 hours) if you need to reschedule.

Rescheduled lessons will either be added to the end of your lesson package at your normal day and time, or rescheduled at an agreed time between us.

If you give me less than 24 hours notice then rescheduling is at my discretion. If this facility is abused I reserve the right to charge you for all or part of the missed lessons.

Payment is due the day before your first lesson. You can pay by credit card by following the link on the e-invoice that I will send to you once we have agreed your lesson plan.

We may make an agreement for you to pay in instalments. There is no extra charge for this but we must agree it beforehand.

You may request a refund for any unused lessons. This is something we will discuss together.

I may choose to refund any unused lessons if you have rescheduled or postponed lessons. For this, I will deduct an admin fee from the unused portion to account for merchant fees, bank charges and processing time.

All documents shared during your lessons are the intellectual property of Jane Birkenhead and Birkenhead English. You are not authorized to copy, reproduce, re-publish, sell, upload, broadcast, post, transmit or distribute any of these materials.

I will share a variety of resources with you during your lessons using a shared Google drive folder. You will have full access to this folder for the period of your lessons and up to 6 months afterwards

Birkenhead English reserves the right to revise, modify or update these terms and conditions at any time.
